1947, Born in Hiroshima.1974 , Graduated from Kunitachi Music College,Postgraduate Course in Tokyo.1975 , Graduated from Ecole Normale de Music de Paris.Studied under Saburo Takata,Jo Shimaoka M.Bitch,O.messiaen.1998 ,Full Professor of Elisabeth University of Music,Hiroshima,Japan.Visiting Chairman of the Board of the Directors of Hiroshima Sympony Orch. Member of the Japan Society for Contemporary Music. Member of theJapan Federation of Composers. Member of the Orchestra Project and delegate in charge of the Project on Contemporary Music.2005,Dean,Full of Professor of Postgraduate course of Elisabeth University of Music,Hiroshima,Japan.Koji Tomotani’s composition Yohaku no kaze(Wind of Emptiness)U for two pianowas as a finalist at the 2nd International Composition Contest inTokyoJapan,1992.The composer felt much attracted by the film ’Mandala’ purporting the brand ofBuddhism prevanlent inWestern Tibet.This lead him to compose pieces such asKala-Cakra(Wheel of Times or Time-Cosmos) and Torana(A Temple Gateway) that havebeen repeatedly performed inFrance,America, thePhilippines and Hong-Kong. Muchof his orchestral productionhas been executed by the NHK,Tokyo andHiroshima Symphony Orchestras.In charge of the project for Contemporary Music, in recent times he has contributedwith works such as Asian Composers and Hiroshima(1994) and An Astronaut’s Dream,a One Man’s Play with Music and Image(written by commission,1993) of which he hasbeen a director, composer and producer. His Chromosphere for Orchestra was award in1997 the Prize for Outstanding Merit at the Art Festival of the Department of Culturein Japan.And also,he had some lectures at HoseoUniversity andPaiChaiUniversityinKorea(2002) ,atUniversity ofSanto Tomas Conservatory of MusicManila in thePhilippines(2004),Sichuan Conservatory of Music inChina(2004);”on the JapaneseContemporary Music since 1945”.His Atoll of the Wind for piano and Love…… for Suitefor Women’s Coir were printed by Mother-Erath Company(Tokyo) Ltd. in 2005,2006 andGimlet of Light for Suite for Men’s Choir was printed byMother- Earth Company(Tokyo) Ltd.in 2007.His Reminiscences of the HermitageCD:THE JAPANESE COMPOSERS 2006;JFC fontec FPCD4687for Shakuhachi solo was accepted for an exhibition of <ISCM-ACL World Music Days 2007 Hong Kong>.
